Remembering the Why of Fitness
As I was finishing my workout today, I had to resist the "exercise away that food" mentality. I know better, but it still creeps up after a large meal. (Or two or three)
You see, we get caught up in that punitive cycle, where food is bad and we are bad for eating it. We forget that exercise is about our heart, lungs, bones, muscles, joints. It's about endurance, strength, flexibility. It's about mental clarity, longevity, independence, quality of life.
We know food is fuel and sometimes we put the wrong kind and more than necessary in the tank. Learning the WHY and HOW of nutrition is a critical health education component, but don't let negative emotions take away the joy and benefits of physical activity.
