A New Name for an Old Blog
I gave my blog a name again. I had un-named it during my doctoral program, so it and/or I would look more grown up in the academic world. But I’m a free agent now, so my self-imposed rules have changed. I started a Tumblr account in 2009; Ms Moderation: practicing extreme balance in all things food, fitness, and fun as I transitioned out of food marketing into the emerging wellness industry. I wrote a weekly health news column, certified as a health coach, and started a blog. It was a good way to roll into my 50’s.
Last year, I intended to roll into my 60’s with the same gusto that I had 10 years prior, but, surprise, things didn’t go exactly as planned. Yeah, the I-finally-finished-my-doctorate, spouse-retires-and-buys-a-pick-up-truck, I-turn-60, lets-road-trip-across-America year of travel ran into a few snags this spring.
You might know, snags at 60 are a little scarier at first and then we realize, they don’t actually ruin the party dress. Because there’s still a lot of twirl left in the fabric. Besides, everyone’s really only looking at their own outfit. So we dance a little longer until we remember high heels are painful and foolish inventions.
This next blog stage will be more like a journal. About everyday thoughts and aging and wellbeing. About life as it seems so frightening, and yet so full of rich stories.
I named it My Own Lane because I’m extracting myself from dead end streets to explore what’s possible when you keep driving. The obstacles, the intersections, the enchantments just up ahead.
