Wellbeing Checklight On?
October brings a rhythm unlike any other month, as though we’re still following our old school calendar, despite being long past the morning hustle of book bags and lunch sacks. We fall in line with the changing season, one foot in the warmth of summer splendor, the other in anticipation of cooler, darker days. Wellbeing is ever evolving, mimicking annual seasons and seasons of life.
But it’s more than just an environmental response this year. We’ve felt the weighted blanket lifted from the previous lockdowns - a freedom that most of us had never experienced.
Summer was exceptionally sweet this year for me. Hopefully you felt some of that vibe too, despite the (literal and figurative) seasonal storms woven into the story. Projects, travel, and our youngest son’s beautifully unique wedding on Vashon Island. Topped off with a 30 day road trip through the Pacific Northwest, my heart is still exploding from the sights, sounds, and emotions.
Which brings me to October and back to the keyboard. I feel strongly that 2023 needs a bit more focus to prevent the wait and see’s from taking over.
I’ve started by reviewing the five dimensions of wellbeing that I taught for years. Physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and spiritual. In what areas was I aligned (outdoor time, daily walks)? What needs some attention (hands-on creativity, strength training, meditation)?
If this interests you too, grab a cup of tea and read this article to get an overview of each category. For example, intellectual wellbeing isn’t just about brain work, it’s creativity and curiosity as well. These aren’t assignments, they’re just simply categories that can lead you to a healthier, richer state of being. A great foundation for wellbeing in 2023.

Wandering the Pacific coast in Oregon. Most of the tourists were gone, so it was especially relaxing.
